Every worker loves new technology, right? Not quite. The truth is, even in today’s business world, where certain segments seem dominated by news of an ‘always on’ culture, adopting and training on new technology can be daunting for plenty of employees. Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived an exhausted, overworked, under-appreciated payroll manager named Pam.
Every day, Pam sifted through endless paper timesheets. Most employees forgot to write down their clock in/out time, so she had to chase them down in the hallways to get their correct hours.
On top of that, Pam had an inbox full of vacation/personal time off (PTO) requests. Everyone wanted to know if they had accumulated enough time to take their trips to Disneyland, the Bahamas, and Las Vegas. This only made her wonder if she was ever going to have the time to get away from the office herself for some much needed rest and relaxation.
The worst part was that she still hadn’t responded to an email from her boss Frank, the CFO. He wanted ideas from Pam on how to add “value to the bottom line.”
Pam couldn’t even get her head above the day-to-day workload to sit back and actually think strategically. Oh, and what was the use anyway … She didn’t have any accurate or quality time and attendance data from which she could glean insights.
Then one day Pam heard about an advanced time and attendance software. Based in the cloud, employees could clock in and out in real time. Moreover, the software had multiple interfaces. For example, onsite she could either set up the system as a cloud clock or a web page on a mounted tablet. For those employees that were on the go, they could clock in from a mobile device or even via a regular telephone.
“WAIT!” the employees grumbled. “We already have enough to do. We are not going to spend time learning some new time and attendance software that no one will want to use.”
But once Pam showed them the incredibly easy and intuitive user interface, their scowls went away. And best of all, employee frowns were turned upside down into happy smiles when they saw that with the real-time time and attendance, they could use self-service to quickly access their own PTO bank.
About a month later, Pam was busy at work in her very happy office. In less than half the time it used to take back in what she now calls ‘the dark days,’ she processed the company’s payroll. Why so quickly? Besides the wonderful features she had discovered that existed within the time and attendance software, it was also fully integrated with her payroll and HR software.
She then called the CFO and said, “Frank, I have some ideas for you…”
And she lived happily ever after.
